BOSTON -- Maurice Watson Jr. had 12 points and six assists on Thursday as Boston University won its Patriot League debut 70-60 over Holy Cross.
Holy Cross (6-7, 0-1) trailed by 10 with 1:07 to play when Cullen Hamilton scored and Burrell followed with a steal and a layup to bring the Crusaders within 66-60. After Travis Robinson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 for Boston, Holy Cross had a chance to make it a one-possession game, but Burrell attacked the rim and turned it over to Irving.
Dave Dudzinski had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Holy Cross and Hamilton led the Crusaders with 16 points.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
