LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Cameron Ayers scored 22 points and Bucknell avenged a loss to Army earlier in the season with a 73-61 win on Saturday night.
Bucknell (12-13, 7-7 Patriot League) closed the game on an 18-9 run, which included nine straight points from Ayers, to pull away from Army (12-13, 8-6).
Ayers hit a 3-pointer to break a tie at 52 and Bucknell did not surrender the lead from that point forward. John Azzinaro and Brian Fitzpatrick added 3-pointers to open a 61-54 lead, and Army couldn't cut the deficit to fewer than six points the rest of the way.
Bucknell hit 7 of 8 free throws over the final 1:32 to preserve the win as Army struggled to score down the stretch.
Fitzpatrick and Chris Hass added 15 points apiece for the Bison.
Tanner Omlid scored 12 points to lead the Black Knights.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
