ARLINGTON, Texas -- Brandon Edwards scored eight of his 23 points in overtime as Texas-Arlington topped Cal State Bakersfield 79-75 Saturday.
Following a layup with 5 seconds to play in overtime, on which he was fouled by Lonnie McLanahan, Erik Kinney went to the charity stripe with UCSB (6-7) trailing 77-75. Kinney intentionally missed the free throw, but was called for a lane violation as he tried to track down the offensive rebound and UTA got the ball.
Stefon Johnson immediately fouled Edwards, who knocked down a pair of free throws with 4 seconds to play, sealing the win for the Mavericks (5-7).
Kinney led the Roadrunners with 20 points, nine rebounds and Brandon Barnes added 18 points while knocking down 5 of 6 3-point shots.
UCSB shot 34.8 percent from the floor.
