MURRAY, Ky. -- Cameron Payne scored 22 points and dished out seven assists to lead Murray State to a 73-65 win over Southern Illinois Tuesday night.
Murray State went into halftime with a 33-30 lead. The Racers used a 16-4 run early in the second half to open up a 48-36 advantage. Payne hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 59-43 with 10:15 left.
The lead stayed in double digits as Southern Illinois (2-8) struggled to get stops. Twice the Salukis got the lead to 11, but Payne hit a 3-pointer on one occasion and Sapp hit a 3 of his own on the other.
Murray State hit 8 of 18 3-pointers compared to Southern Illinois 3 of 9.
Desmar Jackson scored 28 points to lead the Salukis.
