JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Darion Rackley scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half as Jacksonville State rallied to win an Ohio Valley Conference opener against UT-Martin 70-65 Monday night.
The Gamecocks (7-9) hit all 10 of their free throws in the second half in a game that had three technical fouls in the closing minutes. The last one, at the 3:48 mark, allowed Avery Moore and Rackley to make two free throws apiece to put Jacksonville State up 61-58.
After the Skyhawks (5-11) pulled within one as Marshun Newell made two of four free throws, Brian Williams hit a clutch 3-pointer at 1:03. A Terence Smith 3 with nine seconds left again made it a one-point game but Undra Mitchem made two foul shots and Brian Williams had a steal and a dunk at the buzzer.
The Gamecocks were 21-29 from the line.
Newell had 21 off the bench for UT-Martin.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
