HAMMOND, La. -- JaMichael Hawkins scored 17 points to lead Southeastern Louisiana in a 76-72 victory over Incarnate Word in Southland Conference play on Thursday night.
Southeastern Louisiana (6-8, 1-2) led 75-67 with 13 seconds to go. The Lions went on to miss four free throws in a row and Incarnate Word scored five straight points to cut the difference to 75-72. Joshua Filmore made 1 of 2 from the line and Incarnate Word's Mitchell Badillo missed a jumper to close out the game.
Both teams made 25 shots from the floor, six from behind the 3-point arc and combined for 24 personal fouls. Despite dismal free-throw shooting -- 59.3 percent for the Lions and 58.8 percent for the Cardinals -- Southeastern Louisiana's four extra points from the line were enough to prove the difference.
Denzel Livingston scored 18 points for the Cardinals (12-2, 0-1).
