BEAUMONT, Texas -- Nimrod Hilliard's layup with eight seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner as Lamar held on to defeat Houston Baptist 59-57 Thursday night.
The teams traded timeouts after Hilliard scored. Octavius Green fouled Houston Baptist's Rob Lewis on the ensuing possession, sending him to the line. Lewis missed his first shot but made his second to pull Houston Baptist with 58-57 with 3 seconds to play. Colter Lasher then fouled Hilliard, who made one of two from the line. Lasher grabbed the rebound with two seconds left but wasn't able to get off a shot.
Hilliard and Anthony Holliday each scored 14 points to lead Lamar (3-18, 2-7 Southland), which has won two of its previous three games since losing 14-straight. Donovan Ross and Amos Wilson each added nine points with eight rebounds.
