JACKSON, Miss. -- Brandon West scored 19 points with 12 rebounds as Jackson State defeated Texas Southern 84-80 on Monday.
Jackson State (6-12, 2-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) got 17 points from Julysses Nobles, 14 from Jeffery Stubbs and 12 from Javeres Brent. Jackson State shot 53 percent as a team, including 7 of 13 from beyond the arc.
Jackson State opened an 11-point lead midway through the first half, but TSU closed the half on a 7-0 run to trim its deficit to two.
Texas Southern led by eight with 12:13 left in the game, but a layup and free throw by Derrell Taylor capped a 10-1 run to give Jackson State the lead at 62-61 and they never trailed again.
