PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sean McGonagill was 7 of 10 from the field and scored 22 points as Brown opened its season with a 74-57 win over Binghamton on Sunday.

Cedric Kuakumensah, last season's Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, had 14 rebounds, 9 points and six blocks for Brown (1-0). Kuakumensah set a school record last season with seven blocks in a game.

Brown was down 25-24 late in the first half but then scored 10 straight points and never trailed again. Binghamton (0-2) cut the lead to 54-47 midway through the second half but Brown responded with a 10-3 run to extend its lead back to double digits.

Binghamton shot just 30.4 percent from the field. Marlon Beck led the Bearcats with 13 points while Jordan Reed grabbed 13 rebounds. Binghamton finished 3-27 last season.
