NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Sean Armand scored a season-high 30 points and five players scored in double figures as Iona jumped out early to upend previously undefeated George Mason 89-73 on Saturday.
The Gaels (2-2) scored the first 14 points and led by as many as 29 in the first half. A.J. English hit 18 points, David Laury 14, Tre Bowman 11 and Mike Poole 10 for Iona, which shot 50 percent from the field.
The Gaels scored seven of their first 14 points after defensive rebounds or steals. The Patriots missed their first five shots, turned the ball over four times and took more than four minutes to get onto the scoreboard. It was Iona's first win against George Mason in three meetings.
