TOLEDO, Ohio -- Rian Pearson scored 22 points on Saturday and Toledo beat Coppin State 85-66 to win its 12th straight, matching its best season start since 1966-67.
Justin Drummond opened the game with a 3-pointer for Toledo (12-0) and the Rockets never trailed, taking a 44-24 lead into halftime on a 16-2 run. Pearson scored 15 in the half and Toledo outshot Coppin State (4-8) 51.6 percent (16 of 31) to 33.3 percent (10 of 30).
Coppin State stiffened in the second half, cashing in on turnovers to cut Toledo's lead to 13 at 4:59 on a jumper by Daquan Brickhouse. But Toledo let the Eagles get no closer, pulling away by 20 at 2:06 on a 3-pointer by Julius Brown.
