GRAMBLING, La. -- Riley Jenkins downed a game-winning 3-point shot as Lyon College (Ark) squeezed by Grambling State 55-54 in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Grambling (1-6) led NAIA member Lyon College (3-8) by three points, 28-25 at halftime and carried that lead throughout most of the second half until Lyon started a comeback with three minutes left and trailing by seven.
Lyon inched closer, 54-50 with 30 seconds to go and then cut the lead to two points following a basket with 11 seconds remaining. Grambling missed four free throw attempts over the next 11 seconds while Jenkins hit a 3-pointer in the same span giving the Scots the win.
Terry Rose led all Grambling players with 14 points. The Tigers have lost 34 of their last 35 regular season games.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble, considered a lock to leave the program before struggling in the second half last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
Andrew White III will return to the Nebraska men's basketball team next season after removing his name from the NBA draft.
