CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Paul Peterson threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns and Andre Callender came off the bench to run for over 100 yards, leading Boston College to a 21-7 victory over Penn State.

Penn State appeared to capture the early momentum, blocking a punt by Johnny Ayers on the game's opening drive. But Darien Hardy was called for roughing the kicker. Four plays later, the Lions again were called for roughing Ayers.

After receiving two major breaks, Peterson finally capitalized, finishing the drive with a six-yard touchdown strike to tight end David Kashetta.

Peterson, who completed 23-of-31 passes, made it 14-0 before the half, connecting with Grant Adams on a 26-yard TD pass over the middle. The score came one play after Penn State fullback Paul Jefferson fumbled.

Callender, a redshirt freshman filling in for the injured L.V. Whitworth, had 114 yards on 27 carries.

The Eagles' defense played a key role in the win, limiting the Nittany Lions (1-1) to just seven first-half first downs and intercepting four passes.

Penn State's only score came on the first drive of the second half, when Ryan Scott hauled in a 13-yard TD pass from Zack Mills.

Overall, it was a rough night for Mills, who threw for 254 yards but was intercepted four times, twice by linebacker Jay Henderson.
