BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Ben Chappell threw a career-high four touchdown passes, all in the first half, as Indiana stayed unbeaten with a 35-20 victory over Akron on Saturday night.
Chappell finished 23 of 33 for 342 yards, and he wasn't the only Hoosier to have a big night.

Terrance Turner caught six passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, the first 100-yard game of his career. Tandon Doss returned the opening kickoff 41 yards and scored on a 9-yard run, and Ted Bolser caught two scoring passes to become the first Indiana tight end with four TD receptions in a season since Bob Stephenson in 1979.
It wasn't all good for the Hoosiers, who are off to their third 3-0 start in four years. They rushed for only 84 yards and struggled on defense without leading tackler Tyler Replogle, who missed the game with a concussion.
Patrick Nicely took advantage of the missed tackles by going 15-of-27 for 175 yards and two TDs, both to Jeremy LaFrance. But it wasn't enough for the Zips (0-4) to beat their first Big Ten foe since 1894.
Akron, which came in averaging 242 yards per game, finished with 335, including 160 yards rushing -- exposing defensive problems that the Hoosiers must correct before next week's conference opener against Denard Robinson and Michigan.
But Chappell had no trouble getting back in the groove.
After Doss' long kickoff return, Chappell found Bolser for a 10-yard TD pass on the Hoosiers' sixth offensive play.
Akron countered with a field goal, and then Chappell capped a 58-yard drive by hooking up with Bolser again, this time on an 8-yard score to make it 14-3 with 4:56 left in the first quarter.
The Zips settled for another field goal, Chappell threw a 2-yard scoring pass to Max Dedmond, the other tight end, for a 21-6 lead.
Afterward, Nicely finally got the Zips in the end zone.
He took the Zips 59 yards in four plays, throwing a 28-yard TD pass to LaFrance to get Akron within 21-13 with 3:31 remaining in the half.
Chappell came right back. With 45 seconds to go, he found Turner for a 16-yard touchdown.
Doss' scoring run late in the third quarter sealed the Indiana victory.
