Montana 35, South Dakota 24

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Trent McKinney passed for two touchdowns to lead Montana to a 35-24 win Saturday over South Dakota in the season opener for both teams.

Montana set a school record with 34 first downs. The Montana win spoiled the homecoming of South Dakota head coach Joe Glenn, who won the Football Championship Subdivision national championship while coaching at Montana in 2001.

Montana running back Dan Moore ran for 148 yards and a touchdown, and Peter Nguyen added 102 yards and a touchdown.

McKinney, playing in his first collegiate game, connected on scoring tosses of 4 yards to Sam Gratton and 18 yards to Cam Warren. Montana tight end Greg Hardy also hit Bryce Carver with a 39-yard touchdown pass.

South Dakota's Josh Vander Maten had scoring passes of 8 and 80 yards to Terrance Terry, and Charlie Goro returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown for the Coyotes.
