Maine holds off Richmond's late rally to win 28-21

RICHMOND, Va. -- Marcus Wasilewski hit Arthur Williams for a 48-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter as Maine held off Richmond 28-21 in a Colonial Athletic Association opener Saturday.

Nigel Jones rushed for scores of 18 and 46 to put the Black Bears (4-1, 1-0 CAA) up 21-13 early in the fourth quarter.

Michael Strauss responded for the Spiders (2-3, 0-1), throwing a touchdown to Stephen Barnette to tie the game.

Maine then drove 71 yards on just three plays to retake the lead with 5:16 remaining on Wasilewski's strike to Williams.

Strauss drove Richmond down the field again, but was intercepted by Lamar Fitzgerald in the end zone on a first-and-goal, cutting the rally short.

Jones ran for 115 yards on 23 attempts.

Wasilewski threw for 293 yard with two touchdowns, but also had a pair of interceptions.
