Christian McCaffrey shared a story about Stanford QB Kevin Hogan, who's been nicknamed "the Dark Knight" by his teammates. This comes from the aftermath of the Cardinal's season-opening loss to Northwestern, and McCaffrey credits Hogan's words for helping turn the team's poor start into a Pac-12 North title.

Not surprisingly, Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen admitted that he was injured in midseason and suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder against Alabama and that he wasn't 100 percent healthy for the remainder of that game or the Ole Miss game, where Allen went 12-for-34 passing and was later demoted from his starting QB job. Allen said he told the coaches he felt good enough to play and never considered taking himself out. Allen, who started in A&M's 25-0 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday, will start Saturday vs. LSU and said he feels good now.

Urban Meyer is stressing today's practice as a big one for Ohio State as it tries to turn the page after the loss to Michigan State and gear up for both a rivalry game and chance to still win the Big Ten's East Division. "We have to show them that one is done," Meyer said. "It's time to get ready to play a good team."

Hearing former Hawaii coach June Jones is in lead to reclaim the job. Tulsa co-defensive coordinator Brian Norwood and Nevada offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich are also in the mix as Hawaii narrows its candidate pool. Both Rolovich and Norwood played at Hawaii, and Rolovich was an assistant there from 2008-11.

Even as a Florida (and Clemson) commit, Florida State running back Dalvin Cook said he never rooted against the Seminoles. He said he grew up watching the FSU-UF rivalry and is glad both teams are among the country's best again. "There ain't no other way you want it."

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney grew annoyed Tuesday when asked if the Tigers could be overlooking South Carolina. Swinney said "every week it's the same rhetoric" that the Tigers could drop a game because they're looking ahead, whether to Notre Dame or Florida State or UNC. Swinney is tired about being asked about Clemson losing to a game it has no business losing.

Brian Kelly said that RB C.J. Prosise remains in a walking boot and is day-to-day, and that KeiVarae Russell had successful surgery. He also said that OC Mike Sanford is not affected by the "noise" linking his name to head-coach openings.

Penn State stands at 7-4, but it has yet to beat a ranked team or a winning Power 5 team. At times, the Nittany Lions have also appeared to take a step back. James Franklin addressed that, at least partially, on Tuesday: "We're moving in the right direction -- but not as quickly as everyone would like. Including me."

Miles' fate likely not public until Saturday

An announcement on Les Miles' future will "most likely" come sometime after Saturday's game, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad. LSU decision-makers are focused on analyzing not just a potential separation with Miles, but also on who LSU might be able to hire. One name discussed is Florida State's Jimbo Fisher, a former LSU assistant.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is not caught up in emotion or nostalgia as he prepares for first meeting, in this job, with rival Ohio State. What's going through his mind? "How to get the three-technique blocked," Harbaugh said Tuesday.

Northwestern was quite OK with Illinois moving its next three home games vs. the Wildcats, including Saturday's, to Soldier Field in Chicago. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald notes that his team won't have to leave town on Thanksgiving weekend for the next six years and that they won't have to change their Friday routine before the game.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Mark Dantonio says he's focused on the week ahead. "Our goal is to win the East." Michigan State wraps up the division if they beat Penn State Saturday.
