Duke is playing with an entirely retooled front seven, making its performance against Tulane even more impressive. Utah's 24-17 win over Michigan was far from distinguished, but putting the Jim Harbaugh circus behind it with a W can't feel too bad. The solid play of QB Travis Wilson also is encouraging for the the Utes in the rugged Pac12 South. For Michigan, Utes are 3rd best team on schedule, behind Michigan State and Ohio State. So there's hope.

Bright spot for Michigan in its 24-17 loss: The Wolverines have some playmakers in the passing game. Wide receiver Amara Darboh led the team with eight catches for 101 yards and a score. Tight end Jake Butt caught eight passes for 93 yards and a score. It wasn't clear what options Michigan would have among its pass-catchers heading into the season.

You just can't catch this Wildcat

Tough loss and likely the start of a long, tough season for Vanderbilt. Whether it's going uptempo, read-option or what, coach Derek Mason and OC Andy Ludwig must figure out how to make the most out of QB Johnny McCrary's skill set. The defense is good enough, but the offense has to make significant strides to be competitive this season.
