Quaye's 24 points leads Marquette past ODU

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Christina Quaye scored 24 points and hit a
go-ahead layup with 5.8 seconds left Sunday to lift Marquette past
Old Dominion 67-64 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Quaye, a freshman, had 11 in the final six minutes for the
ninth-seeded Golden Eagles (22-9), who are making their first NCAA
appearance in four years. She went 10-for-15 from the floor and had
eight rebounds.

The Golden Eagles advanced to play top-seeded Duke in Tuesday's
second round of the Mideast Regional.

Shareese Grant scored 19 points to lead the eighth-seeded Lady
Monarchs (25-7), who shot 46 percent but committed 20 turnovers.
Marquette scored 20 points off those turnovers and scored 15
second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.

With the score tied at 64, Crystal Weaver saved a bad pass from
going out of bounds, then found Quaye all alone under the basket.
Quaye scored and drew an intentional foul on Paula Muxiri with 5.8
seconds left.

Quaye hit one of two free throws for the three-point lead. Grant
tied up Kelly Schwerman on the inbound pass to get possession with
2.4 seconds to play, but Marianthi Koukouvino's desperation
3-pointer missed.
