Dolphins-Texans Preview

SCOUTING REPORT
Struggling Dolphins defense faces improving TexansThe Texans have gotten off track the past two weeks, but QB Matt Schaub is still been playing at a high level and continues to show that he is the leader of the offense, if not the entire team. The Dolphins are off to a rough start and it's been something different every week that keeps Miami from earning a win. The defense hasn't been playing well and the offense has been inconsistent. These are two teams who are due for a win and the team that commits the least amount of mistakes will come out on top. However, this is easier said than done. Miami head coach Cam Cameron wants his offense to form an identity, which it hasn't yet. He needs to have production running the ball and keep the passing game simple and safe for veteran QB Trent Green. The Miami defense is giving up big plays, which is uncharacteristic of defensive coordinator Dom Capers. Houston head coach Gary Kubiak will try to take advantage of the weak Dolphins defense and keep them on the field as much as possible.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Houston Texans running back Ahman Green and receiver Jacoby Jones were listed as inactive for Sunday's game against Miami.

It is the second consecutive week that both players have been inactive. Green has a bruised knee and Jones has a separated shoulder. The Texans are also without Andre Johnson, who is inactive for the third straight game with a knee sprain.

Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder and defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday were inactive, but Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas was activated after missing the last two games with a concussion.

Scouts Inc.: AFC offseason needs
You can think of this as the ultimate primer for the NFL offseason, or at least the AFC offseason: Gary Horton of Scouts Inc. breaks down all the squads in the AFC and tells you their top three needs to address, be it via the draft or free agency.
Dolphins' McDaniel out of jail following arrest
Officials say Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Tony McDaniel is out of jail after being arrested and accused of domestic violence.
Owners talk labor situation; status quo reigns
NFL owners have met for several hours to discuss the labor situation, although it appears they are no closer to reaching an agreement with the players' union for a new collective bargaining agreement.

Message from Dolphins' Chad Pennington: I don't Twitter
Your vote has been counted, thank you for voting. BY JEFF DARLINGTON jdarlington@MiamiHerald.com In case you were wondering, Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington didn't put down a 40-ounce Porterhouse, two baked potatoes, zucchini and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for dinner last Thursday night.
Miami Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth learning from veterans
After a season of learning a complex new position on the fly while hampered with a torn groin, Matt Roth watched Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland beef up an already overflowing linebacking corps.
Ronnie Brown has something to prove with Miami Dolphins this season
Ronnie Brown is a quality NFL running back. But he might have to be more than that - maybe a lot more than that - if he wants to be the featured back in the Dolphins' offense beyond the 2009 season.
Miami Dolphins' Will Allen more than mentor to young cornerbacks
One of Tony Sparano's pet expressions is that he is more concerned about getting the "right 53 players'' on the team, not necessarily the best.
Jake Long's road with Miami Dolphins just beginning
Jake Long never looked overwhelmed in 2008, at least off the field. Not around barking coaches or testing veterans at training camp.
June brings Texans leadership, big-game experience
Cato June's jewelry sets him apart from other players battling for roster spots with the Texans.
Solomon: Robinson has strange number, inspiring rise
Even after we saw him make plays, impact plays even, last season, something about DelJuan Robinson just doesn't look right on the Texans' defensive line.
Best wide receiver on planet, Andre Johnson, expected to get better

Texans' Smith looks to bring rush opposite Williams
Mario Williams has become a ferocious pass rusher in his three NFL seasons. Too bad the Texans haven't had any pressure coming from the opposite end since he was drafted.
Texans hoping Smith supports Williams
HOUSTON - Mario Williams has become a ferocious pass rusher in his three NFL seasons.
