2009 Season Outlook
Go back 12 years and tell a Panthers fan that Kerry Collins will eventually be known as a game manager. Don't be insulted by the laughs. The idea that the guy who threw 11 touchdowns and 21 picks in 1997 is suddenly Phil Simms is humorous. Yes, Collins is a fine option for Tennessee, because his name isn't Vince Young and because the team had the fifth-run-heaviest offense in the NFL last year. But better defenses knew what to do against Collins: make him throw deep. It's not that he doesn't have the arm; it's the head that's a problem. Yes, the additions of Nate Washington and Kenny Britt give Collins more weapons, but we don't trust Jeff Fisher to field a passing-intensive team, and we don't trust Collins, period. |
