SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Revenge was far from Jim Mora's mind after he led his Atlanta Falcons past his former employers.
Instead, the coach felt only pride -- both in his new defense and in the players he left behind in San Francisco.| Allen's Analysis |
|---|
How long before Vick gets comfortable in the new offense?Today was a good day for Vick, but it's hard to tell how long it's going to take for him to get comfortable in this offense because it differs so greatly from anything else he's done. In the past, offenses have been geared around his mobility and ability to break a big play with his legs. This offense is more geared towards precise passing, which I think is a good idea.Vick is an exceptional talent and one that should be in every game and this offense is geared toward keeping him in those games by protecting him. Instead of letting him run around and face potentially season or career-ending hits, the coaching staff has wisely decided to keep him in the pocket during the season. I wouldn't be surprised if that changed a little bit during the playoffs when he'll be able to run around against players who are tired from a long NFL season. Eric Allen played cornerback for 14 NFL seasons with the Eagles, Saints and Raiders. He's a regular contributor to Insider. |
Game notes
The Niners lost CB Mike Rumph to a groin injury in the first half. He's doubtful for next week. ... Former San Francisco CB Jason Webster made five tackles in his first game with Atlanta. "It was like playing against my brothers," he said. ... Atlanta RB T.J. Duckett didn't carry the ball until late in the third quarter.
