SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The aching ankle, the injured pride and the Green Bay Packers' losing record all stopped hurting as soon as Brett Favre stepped on some familiar turf Sunday.

Green Bay QB Brett Favre has 413 career touchdowns and is only eight away from passing the NFL record for most touchdown passes in a career. | ||

Offensively, the Packers were efficient in pass protection. Defensively, they struggled with their tackling. Niners running back Frank Gore (above) had a big day rushing (130 yards), but his fumble problems resurfaced.
The Packers limited their penalties and forced the 49ers out of their game plan, resulting in QB Alex Smith passing more than San Francisco would have liked. Smith has progressed in his second year, but he's still developing. With cornerback Shawntae Spencer out and CB Donald Strickland battling injury, QB Brett Favre was able to pass successfully. |
Game notes
Nolan, who wore his suit-and-tie ensemble for the second time this season, made two successful challenges. The first erased a long catch by Greg Jennings, who was out of bounds on the Packers' opening drive, and the second improved an unfavorable spot on Smith's dive near the goal line, setting up Gore's third-quarter TD. ... RB Ahman Green scored his 67th touchdown for the Packers, surpassing Sterling Sharpe for third place in franchise history.
