Monster Park, San Francisco, CA
TE Vernon Davis caught a 7-yard TD pass for San Francisco with 4:16 left. ... New Orleans DE Charles Grant sprained his ankle in the first quarter, but returned to the game. ... Niners WR Jason Hill made his first NFL catch in the fourth.
The Saints won their third in a row and used an excellent mixture of run and pass. Running back Reggie Bush was effective both inside and in space, averaging more than 6 yards per carry, and the 49ers didnít have an answer for New Orleans second-year wide receiver Marques Colston, who used his size and strength to get separation and had one of his best outings as a pro. Saints QB Drew Brees found his rhythm with the offensive line giving him plenty of time to survey the field. The New Orleans defense made it tough on rusty San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith by mixing pressure packages with man- and zone-coverage combinations.
