Research Notes
From Elias: In the Jets home-opener in Week 1, they scored 48 points en route to a huge win over the Bills. After two road games, they played their 2nd home game and were shut out by the 49ers. Since the merger, it's the most points scored by a team in their home opener and then shut out in their next home game.
In fact, since the merger, only one other team had ever scored 36 points in their home opener and then were shutout in their 2nd home game and that team was the 1975 Jets! [+]MOST POINTS IN HOME OPENER - AND THEN SHUTOUT IN NEXT HOME GAME

Mark Sanchez continued his season-long struggles on short throws. Sanchez completed 8-of-17 attempts within five yards of the line of scrimmage for 46 yards and an interception on Sunday. Sanchez is completing 50.9 percent of his passes on such throws this season, after completing over 60 percent during his first three seasons. [+]Mark Sanchez Passing 5 Yards or Fewer Downfield

Mark Sanchez completed less than 50% of his passes for the 3rd time in the team's first 4 games. He is the 2nd Jets QB to have at least 3 games with less than 50% comp pct in the team's 1st 4 games (min. 25 att). The other was Dick Wood in 1963. The last player on any team to do it was Trent Dilfer in 1996 for the Buccaneers.

NEXT LEVEL: Mark Sanchez continued his season-long struggles on short throws. Sanchez completed 8-of-17 attempts within five yards of the line of scrimmage for 46 yards and an interception. Entering the game, Sanchez's 52.6 completion percentage ranked 30th in the NFL, and Patrick Willis' third quarter interception made Sanchez the fourth quarterback in the league with multiple interceptions this season on throws five yards or fewer downfield (Ryan Tannehill, Eli Manning and Matthew Stafford).
NEXT LEVEL: Mark Sanchez entered Sunday ranked eighth in the league with a 8.4 yards per attempt average against five or more pass rushers. However, the 49ers defense shut down Sanchez on Sunday, holding him to 2-for-8 passing for 14 yards and an interception. [+]Mark Sanchez vs 5+ Pass Rushers
Close [X] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
NEXT-LEVEL: The 49ers had 245 rushing yards Sunday against the Jets, 149 of which came outside the tackles. San Francisco's 149 rushing yards outside the tackles is the second-highest single game total of any team since the start of 2011 (Vikings had 160 in Week 16 vs Redskins). In the first half alone, the 49ers rushed for 87 yards outside the tackles, a total that would have ranked fourth highest for the Niners over the last five seasons.
