From Elias: The Falcons gained 477 yards but lost the NFC title game at home to the 49ers, setting an NFL postseason record for most yards gained by a team in a postseason loss at home (neutral-field Super Bowls are not included). The previous record was the total of 472 yards gained by the Dolphins in that classic overtime loss to the Chargers in the playoffs following the 1981 season.
Matt Ryan was outstanding throwing downfield in the first half on Sunday. Ryan completed 11 passes on throws deeper than 10 yards downfield, equaling his full-game career high in completions of that distance. Ryan and the Falcons' offense were more conservative in the second half.[+]
After taking a 28-24 lead, the 49ers defense put Matt Ryan under duress on six of his final 12 dropbacks (50 pct). Ryan was put under duress (including a sack) on just three of his first 32 dropbacks (9.4 pct) of the game. The 49ers did not change their approach, blitzing once on Ryan's final 12 dropbacks (8.3 percent), consistent with their approach in his first 32 dropbacks (three with added pressure, 9.4 percent).
Vernon Davis had one touchdown catch since Colin Kaepernick took over as starting quarterback in Week 11 before Sunday. Davis finished with one or fewer catches in six of his first eight games with Kaepernick starting, but the second-year quarterback connected with Davis five times for 106 yards and a touchdown on Sunday.[+]
Colin Kaepernick was 9-of-11 for 129 yards and a touchdown when the Falcons sent five or more pass rushers Sunday, setting a career high for passing yards against added pressure. Kaepernick's primary target on these throws was Vernon Davis, who caught four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown when the Falcons sent extra pressure. Kaepernick also scrambled once for 23 yards.
Colin Kaepernick was kept in the pocket on 21 of his 23 dropbacks Sunday (91.3 percent), his highest rate of the season. Kaepernick averaged 11.5 yards per pass attempt when inside the pocket though, his highest rate since his first start in Week 11 (13.5 YPA).
The 49ers used the option on 13 rushes Sunday, but Colin Kaepernick didn't keep on any of those plays (7 rushes, 99 yards, TD on option keepers in Divisional Playoffs). Although the Falcons were able to contain Kaepernick, they failed to stop the 49ers running backs on options, allowing three touchdowns on those plays.[+]

Falcons Are Grounded - Sunday vs 49ers
The Falcons have had trouble with tight ends in the playoffs, giving up 105 yards and a TD to Vernon Davis after getting burned for 142 yards and a TD last week by Zach Miller. Only one TE had a 100-yard game against Atlanta in the regular season (the Saints' Jimmy Graham in Week 10), and then it happened 2 weeks in a row in the playoffs.[+]
From Elias: The 49ers trailed 17-0 early in the 2nd quarter but rallied back to win. That's the 2nd-largest comeback win in conference championship history.[+]
Largest Deficit Overcome - To Win AFC/NFC Championship
Tony Gonzalez has hinted at retiring after this season. Gonzalez's 1,242 receptions are the second most in NFL history. He is the all-time leader in receptions, receiving yard and receiving touchdowns among tight ends. Gonzalez earned his 13th career Pro Bowl selection this season. That's tied for the second most ever by any player.[+]
No team has ever won the Super Bowl without winning AT LEAST 3 straight games during that regular season, and 49ers didn't win 3 straight games in 2012. Their longest win streak was two games (done 5 times)
There were 38 combined points in the 1st half... The last time the NFC Championship Game featured that many 1st-half points was the 1995 season, when the Cowboys led the Packers 24-17 at halftime in a game they'd win, 38-27. The last time it happened in the AFC Championship was the 2002 season -- Raiders led the Titans 24-17 and won, 41-24.
