Atlanta's 'D' needs help

The Falcons enter today's game against the Browns having given up 281.2 pass yards per game and 8.2 yards per attempt, both the worst in the league. Cleveland is averaging 7.8 yards per attempt, seventh in the league and 244 pass yards per game, 14th in the league.

New England back as a contender

Remember when New England got thumped by Kansas City in Week 4 and everyone talked about the downfall of Tom Brady? Yeah, everyone has forgotten about that, including Vegas.

New England's odds of winning the title:
  • Week 5: 14-1
  • Week 6: 12-1
  • Week 7: 10-1
  • Week 10: 5-1
  • Week 12: 4.5-1

How much can Gordon help?

With Josh Gordon returning to the Browns today, he should help a wide receiver corps that is only catching 55.7 percent of passes targeted for them this season -- the second-lowest percentage in the league.

Minnesota is 10-2 against the spread in its last 12 games as a home underdog, which is why ESPN's Chad Millman says the sharps are going against Green Bay, dropping the line from -10 to -8 heading into today.

Seattle's playoff hopes slim

A loss today would put the Seattle four games back of the Cardinals with five games remaining.

No defending Super Bowl champion has won a playoff game since the 2005 Patriots -- the last two defending champs missed the playoffs altogether.

Chances for 5-win NFL playoff team

In case you were wondering, yes, it is mathematically possible for a five-win team to make the playoffs this year. The most likely teams to do so would be the Falcons winning the NFC South at 5-11 or the Panthers doing so at 5-10-1.

Richard Sherman wants to play WR

"He's been very clear in that intent for a long time around here. It's always been a conversation that we've had, and if I need him I'm going to him and he knows that."

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told KIRO Radio 97.3 FM on Friday that CB Richard Sherman playing WR has been discussed.
