Maclin puts Chiefs on top

For the second consecutive game, Jeremy Maclin has scored a touchdown, giving the Chiefs a 6-0 lead over the Titans (extra point was no good). Alex Smith -- who didn't complete a TD pass to a wide receiver in the regular season in 2014 -- is 6-for-7 for 71 yards so far. Follow live

The Carolina Panthers continued to start slow offensively. With a field goal on four drives to start Friday night's game against New England the first unit has 10 points on 11 series. Drops continue to be an issue.

Tom Brady, playing w/o several receivers, throws 2nd INT in 1st q at Carolina. Maybe his mind is elsewhere, in a Manhattan court room.

Brady picked off again

If this is a regular-season dress rehearsal, Tom Brady may want to re-write the script. The Pats QB is 2-for-6 passing and just threw his second interception of the first quarter. The Panthers lead the Patriots 3-0. Follow live

Reggie Wayne snap tracker: Through three drives, he's played 7 of 10 snaps. No targets yet. Officially signed Tuesday. Right into the mix.

Tom Brady picked off! Charles Tillman with an incredible play to take the ball away from Aaron Dobson for the interception.

A surprise man on the run

Your leading rusher so far in this Panthers-Patriots game is not a running back, nor is it Cam Newton but it is Tom Brady with 18 yards. That's the preseason for you. Follow live

Jaguars rookie safety James Sample (forearm) will not play tonight. Was hoping to get a look at the 4th-round pick, who was challenging starter Sergio Brown before he got hurt.

Slow start for Brady

Tom Brady is just 1-for-3 passing for 7 yards on New England's first two possessions of the game. The Pats and Panthers are scoreless in the first quarter of the third preseason game for each team. Follow live

Second snap of the game and Reggie Wayne makes his debut, lining up at outside position to left side.

How should you approach drafting Brady?

ESPN's Matthew Berry says if you draft Patriots QB Tom Brady -- who is taking the field tonight against the Panthers -- you should grab a second quarterback to bridge the gap between Brady's potential suspension.

Livin' La Vida Gronk

When your 4 older brothers are or have been professional athletes and your dad calls you "probably the best pure athlete to come out of our house," that's a Gronk-sized honor. That's Glenn Gronkowski. The youngest Gronk

The next Jimmy Graham?

The Saints signed Chris Manhertz, who hasn't played football at any level, but played power forward for Canisius. The 6-foot-6 255-pounder will try to catch on with New Orleans as a tight end. Coach Sean Payton said: "When you see his size and stature -- obviously he has a lot of things he has to learn, but the workout was pretty impressive."

After further tests, an independent neurologist reversed his decision and said Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will not be cleared for Saturday's game at Baltimore. Griffin suffered concussion-like symptoms in the second preseason game vs. Detroit. He practiced all week but followed the concussion protocol all week. On Thursday it was announced that he had been cleared.

Calvin Johnson is inactive for the Detroit Lions tonight and Corey Fuller is starting for him. DeAndre Levy and Ezekiel Ansah among other Lions inactives. Rookie first round pick Laken Tomlinson is making first-ever start at LG.

RG III has to get confidence back

Adam Caplan says playing time is key for QB Robert Griffin III after being cleared to play following a concussion: "He needs to get reps in back of that new offensive line."

This Carolina Panthers fan is in prime position when New England quarterback Tom Brady runs onto the field for tonight's preseason game at Bank of America Stadium.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes

When Troy Polamalu retired from the NFL, shampoo brand Head & Shoulders needed a new spokesman -- and Odell Beckham Jr.'s two-toned dreads were an obvious answer. "I don't think my hair is as good as Troy's," Beckham told ESPN. "But hopefully I can one day live up to his reputation."
