Jarome Iginla has matched the longest goal-scoring streak of his career, and that's a major reason why the Calgary Flames are surging back into the Western Conference playoff picture.

Iginla looks to continue his streak and help lead the visiting Flames to a sixth straight victory Friday night when they try to re-establish their dominance of the last-place Edmonton Oilers.

Iginla has seven goals over his six-game run, which matches the longest streak of his 15-season career. He also scored in six straight games March 2-11, 2002, and Nov. 28-Dec. 12, 2006.

The captain's current surge comes during a 6-1-1 surge for Calgary. Iginla has recorded at least one point in all eight of those contests, totaling eight goals and six assists. He hasn't had a nine-game point streak since Nov. 19-Dec. 16, 2010.

Led by Iginla, the Flames (34-25-12) have won five in a row for the first time since a six-game run Jan. 21-Feb. 3, 2011. The current hot streak has moved Calgary into a tie with San Jose, one point behind Phoenix and Colorado for the final two playoff positions in the West.

Iginla scored again Thursday as the Flames beat the Coyotes 4-1 at home.

"It's fun to be back in this playoff race," Iginla said. "It's going to be interesting with so many teams here."

Facing Edmonton (27-36-7), the team at the bottom of the Northwest Division, may keep Iginla hot. His 81 career points against the Oilers are his most versus any opponent. Iginla has seven goals and six assists in his last seven games versus Edmonton, but was kept off the scoresheet and was a minus-3 in a 6-1 home defeat Feb. 21.

Still, the Flames have won 16 of their last 18 matchups with the Oilers, including seven of eight visits to Rexall Place.

They might be helped by rookie left wing Sven Baertschi, who has played four games since being recalled from Portland of the WHL last week and has scored in each of the last three. However, Baertschi isn't certain of his long-term role with the club.

"I have no idea," he said. "Maybe I'll play, maybe not. It's their decision. As soon as guys come back (from injury) I have to leave."

The Oilers, meanwhile, will try to play the spoiler to their provincial rivals for the second time in less than a month.

"This is good for us," coach Tom Renney told the team's official website. "If we can tap into what we did last time in Calgary, we're in good shape."

That victory featured six different goal scorers for Edmonton, while Jordan Eberle and Sam Gagner had three points each.

Eberle, Edmonton's leader with 30 goals and 66 points, has three goals and six assists in his last 11 meetings with the Flames.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and an assist Wednesday for his first multi-point game since December, helping the Oilers to a 3-0 home victory over league-worst Columbus. It was only Edmonton's second win in its last eight games.

"It was a lot better. I thought the guys responded really well," captain Shawn Horcoff said. "We got challenged and we wanted to respond to it. We wanted to come out with a really solid effort and was really proud to see the way the guys did."
