The NHL-worst Colorado Avalanche are back in Denver following a 14th straight road loss -- with a chance to extend the Calgary Flames' franchise-record road skid to 14.

Colorado looks to avoid a season-high fifth consecutive defeat Monday night when the Flames seek their first victory since the last matchup between these Northwest Division foes.

After five of their previous seven games were decided by one goal, the Avs (12-21-5) lost 4-0 at Phoenix on Saturday.

"It's been a tough stretch here," said coach Joe Sacco, whose team has gone 2-11-1 in its last 14. "We're trying to do what we can as coaches to make sure the guys are staying positive and sticking together. This was really the first game in the last while here where we were not really in the game."

The Avs, whose 29 points are one fewer than the Flames' total, will try for their third straight home win in this series. After recording a 6-3 victory at Calgary on Jan. 31, Colorado extended its winning streak over the Flames to four with a 5-4 come-from-behind victory Feb. 28.

Gabriel Landeskog, Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene netted third-period goals in the latest matchup to end Calgary's eight-game point streak in Denver.

Michael Cammalleri's two goals lifted the host Flames to a 4-3 victory over the Avalanche on March 27, but Calgary has been outscored 25-10 during a season-worst five-game losing streak since.

Calgary's road slide hit 13 with a 2-1 loss to San Jose on Friday and a 5-2 defeat to Vancouver the following night.

You can't fault our effort or how competitive we are, but it's not enough at the end of the day," said forward Lee Stempniak, whose 300th career point was an assist on Alex Tanguay's goal.

With Jarome Iginla and defenseman Jay Bouwmeester shipped out prior to last week's trade deadline, it appears the Flames won't have enough to end a three-year postseason drought.

A more immediate concern is avoiding their first six-game losing streak since an 0-6-3 slide from Jan. 11-28, 2010.

It's uncertain if Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff will get a third straight start. After giving up five goals Jan. 31, he's suffered three consecutive losses in this series following 10 straight wins.

Joey McDonald was in net for Calgary in the other two matchups with Colorado.

The Flames are giving up a league-worst 3.51 goals per game, but the Avalanche have netted two or fewer goals in six straight.

Perhaps P.A. Parenteau can give Semyon Varlamov or Jean-Sebastien Giguere some room for error in the Avs' net. Parenteau has team highs of five assists and seven points versus Calgary in 2012-13.

Avs center Ryan O'Reilly, who signed an offer sheet with the Flames in late February after a contract dispute with Colorado, is without a point since scoring a goal and setting up another in last month's loss in Calgary.

Flames forward Jiri Hudler has four assists and seven points -- both team highs -- against Colorado this season.
