TULSA, Okla. -- Danielle Robinson did a little bit of everything to help the San Antonio Silver Stars earn an important win.
Robinson had 12 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds, and San Antonio beat the Tulsa Shock 78-63 on Wednesday night to stop a five-game slide."We needed this," San Antonio coach Dan Hughes said. "We played three good quarters of basketball. The third quarter they just owned us. We expected them to make a run at us, not the kind they made."Defensively, I was pleased with our efforts. That's a building block. We needed that after the little skid we've been on."Robinson, who played her college ball at Oklahoma, scored 10 in the second half while playing in front of a huge contingent of Sooners fans and former teammates. She also had a pair of important steals in the fourth."I was just trying to be that spark," she said. "This win is huge, especially on the road. We knew they would make a run, we just had to come back strong and sharp in the fourth quarter and we did."I love playing here. It was fun to see a lot of fans from Oklahoma."Shameka Christon scored 17 points and Sophia Young had 16 for San Antonio (18-11), which led 51-27 at halftime. Becky Hammon had 11, and Jayne Appel added nine points and 11 rebounds.Glory Johnson led Tulsa (6-23) with 18 points, and reserve Ivory Latta had 17. Temeka Johnson finished with 10 points.San Antonio grabbed control with a 15-3 run in the first half. Jia Perkins capped the spurt with a jumper that made it 32-14 with 8:34 left in the second quarter."I think we were embarrassed with that first-half effort," Shock coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "We came out with energy in the third quarter, got ourselves back in striking range, getting to within eight points twice."You can't just play 20 minutes in this league. For whatever reason, we came out flat, with low energy and let them do whatever they wanted in the first half. It's hard to dig out of a huge hole like that."Copyright by STATS LLC and The Associated Press
